About Us

ANEF is co-curated and produced by two independent filmmakers, Rhiana Bonterre and Patrycja Loranc. They have been creating experimental events together since 2021.

Rhiana Bonterre

Rhiana Bonterre is a UK based filmmaker, who’s work draws inspiration from Caribbean life and culture, and the ways its complex and traumatic past affects and shapes thought, identity and perception in the present, both at home and amongst the Diaspora.

Through the vessel of moving image, Rhiana engages intimately with the subjects of her work, playing with movement, the mixing of mediums, voice, archive footage and interview material in fluid ways. Having grown up in Trinidad, the rich art forms of the region are intentionally intertwined and integrated within many of her works. In her most recent projects, Rhiana experiments with the many emotional expressions of dance, and how movement in this form can translate feelings of restriction, resentment and freedom in ways that feel spiritual and often dreamlike.

Her films have been screened at the Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival in both 2020 and 2021, and her most recent work, 'Rhythms of my Silence' was screened at the Berwick Film and Media Arts Festival in 2021.

Patrycja Loranc

Fragments of Experience1.png

Patrycja Loranc believes in the psychedelic (mind-revelation) in art practice as a spiritual process of wellbeing and transformation. She explores direct experience as a meditative altered state through video, sound, writing, and photography. In a journey through complexities of identity and vulnerability of being, the neurodiversity paradigm and sensory profiles inform her intuitive practice rediscovering the relationships with nature, spaces, and objects, within experimental structures.

She is currently developing her PhD research into the idea of Psychedelic Film Practice, looking at mind-revealing as filmmaking method and as the film experience, inspired by neuroscientific, philosophical, psychological and poetic approaches to consciousness, selfhood, perception and altered states.

Patrycja has shown her work in film festivals as well as art exhibitions. She currently works as freelance video editor, film festival pre-selector, and associate lecturer in filmmaking.
